This Greenwood Village whole-home remodel showcases how thoughtful design and craftsmanship can completely transform a dated 1990s home without major structural changes. Working alongside Basil & Tate, our team helped modernize nearly every room in the house, creating a warm, functional home tailored to a growing family. As an experienced home remodeling contractor serving Southwest Denver, our goal was to preserve the home's strong foundation while introducing timeless materials, custom details, and updated finishes throughout.

A 1990s Home Remodeled for Modern Living

Unlike many whole-home remodels that involve extensive structural changes, this project focused primarily on cosmetic and finish updates throughout the home.

Because the bones of the house were exceptionally solid, very few walls needed to move. The design strategy centered on replacing dated materials, introducing custom architectural details, and creating consistency throughout the home's many living spaces.

Multi-Room Remodel in Southwest Remodel

The remodel touched nearly every area of the home, including the kitchen, primary bathroom, Jack-and-Jill bathroom, main-level powder bathroom, basement full bathroom, all bedrooms, office, living room, dining room, butler pantry, mud room, laundry room, breakfast nook, gym, basement recreation room, and the home's entry and stairways. By updating both the primary living spaces and the everyday supporting areas, the project created a cohesive design experience that flows seamlessly from room to room.

The result is a home that feels entirely renewed while maintaining the flow and functionality that made it attractive in the first place.

A Collaborative Design-Build Approach

One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was the collaboration between the homeowners, the Denver designer, Basil & Tate, and Grimes Home Concepts.

Basil & Tate worked closely with the family early in the process to understand their vision, preferences, and goals for the home. Once the design direction was established, Grimes Home Concepts joined the team to provide budgeting guidance, construction planning, feasibility review, and project execution.

This collaborative approach allowed design and construction decisions to work together from the beginning, helping the project move smoothly from concept to completion. Throughout the process, communication remained a top priority. The homeowners appreciated the team's attention to detail, transparency, and commitment to delivering a finished product that reflected their vision.

Custom Features That Elevated the Home

A carefully curated material palette helped bring warmth, texture, and character to every room. A large-scale home remodeling project requires acute attention to detail and design. Take a look at the different details that make this remodel a home.

White Oak Throughout the Home

White oak became one of the defining design elements of the remodel. It appears in custom fireplace surrounds, floating shelves, niches, built-ins, and a custom kitchen hood, creating continuity throughout the home.

Stone, Tile, and Texture

Natural stone and decorative tile selections elevated the overall aesthetic while adding timeless appeal.

Marble slab countertops and wainscoting, marble mosaic tile, glass mirror tile, and brick tile flooring each contribute their own character while working together to create a refined and welcoming atmosphere.

Architectural Character

The design team incorporated a variety of architectural details to add depth and personality throughout the home.

Painted tongue-and-groove paneling, painted shiplap accents, custom faux beams, grasscloth wallpaper, and updated gas fireplace inserts all helped transform the home's appearance while maintaining a timeless feel.

Custom Stair Railing

One standout feature is the custom stair railing, which combines red oak newel posts and handrails with tapered iron balusters. This detail creates a refined focal point while complementing the home's updated design language.

Additional custom features include floating shelves, built-in storage, decorative niches, and millwork details that help each space feel intentional and tailored to the family.

Functional spaces received just as much attention as the primary living areas. Butcher block countertops brought warmth and practicality to the laundry room and mud room, while luxury vinyl plank flooring provided a durable solution for the home gym.

Transforming the Primary Bathroom

While the overall remodel required very few structural modifications, the primary bathroom received the most significant layout changes.

Strategic wall relocations allowed the team to create a larger shower, improve the bathtub layout, and introduce a steam shower experience that dramatically enhanced the space.

These modifications improved both comfort and functionality while maintaining a cohesive connection to the rest of the home.

The finished primary bathroom balances luxury and practicality, creating a true retreat for the homeowners.
